Sending a big congratulations to our partners at Community Corporation of Santa Monica on the groundbreaking of Red Tail Crossing. This is the first entirely affordable housing and permanent supportive housing development in the Westchester area!
Red Tail Crossing will serve households earning between 15 and 70 percent of the AMI. The development will also bring a total of 102 units to the area in a mix of 1, 2 and 3-bedrooms. 40 of the 1-bedroom units will be reserved for formerly homeless individuals and 52 will be reserved for families.
This is a crucial development for the area as it overcomes a racially motivated covenant from the 1940s that barred multifamily housing near LAX. This project acted as the spark for the Assembly Bill 721, which removes vestiges of redlining by preventing covenant density restrictions from blocking multifamily and affordable housing developments. At the groundbreaking, our very own Debbie Burkart spoke of the importance of this development and the collaboration that went into its planning.
This wonderful development would not be possible without support from all of the partners and investors who dedicated their time and resources to advocating for affordable and supportive housing despite historical racial barriers. Thank you to all involved in what is soon-to-be a beautiful new home for individuals and families in need.
