We want to give recognition to another award-winning development!
Congratulations to our friends and at Community Development Partners (CDP) and Native American Youth and Family Center (NAYA) on winning the Charles L. Edson Tax Credit Excellence Award (Edson Awards) in the Housing for Native Americans or Tribal Populations category. This recognition by the Affordable Housing Tax Credit Coalition celebrates outstanding affordable housing developments and rehabilitation made possible through financing from the Low-Income Housing Tax Credit (LIHTC).
The winning development, Mamook Tokatee, is located in Portland’s Cully neighborhood and offers 55 units of affordable housing. There are 11 units with a preference for artists and 20 units reserved for Native tenants with a priority for Siletz tribal members. The remaining 24 units prioritize other federally recognized tribal members.
The development name is a Chinook Wawa phrase meaning “make beautiful,” connecting directly to the art-forward influence of this housing community, which aims to support Native artists through onsite programs and creative spaces. In addition to cultural activities and communal spaces for Native artists, who are often referred to as the “keepers of culture” in tribal communities, the development also offers residents access to food, clothing, and essential household supplies.
Thank you to everyone who made this incredible development become a reality, including our investor partners at Capital One!
