NEF partner Bridge Meadows recently celebrated the grand opening of Bridge Meadows Redmond, a 36-unit new construction affordable housing community in Redmond, Oregon. The grand opening ceremony was proceeded by an open house showcasing the development. Speakers included Bridge Meadows’ Executive Director Dr. Derenda Schubert and board chair Mike Schrader. The NEF syndicated development was made possible by the support of our partners Umpqua Bank.
Similar to other Bridge Meadows communities, the goal of Bridge Meadows Redmond is to create an intergenerational community that supports foster children, adoptive families and seniors.
There will be a total of 36 units targeted to households with incomes of no more than 30, 50, and 60 percent of Area Median Income, including 22 one‐ and four two‐bedroom apartments for seniors, and eight three‐ and four‐bedroom homes for adoptive families.
The Bridge Meadows model links adoptive families, foster children and seniors through a unique program of housing and volunteerism. The development will provide affordable rental housing for families and seniors, resulting in an approximate 1:1 ratio of seniors to children. The Oregon Department of Human Services (DHS) screens and refers the prospective families as adoptive parents, and places foster children with them for adoption or guardianship. Families agree to adopt or become permanent guardians to at least three children within five years. Seniors agree to provide volunteer hours as mentors to the families and children after first completing a respite care training program conducted by DHS. Bridge Meadows Redmond will be the third such Bridge Meadows property using this model. The other two properties, also syndicated by NEF, are located in Portland and Beaverton, OR.
